Collectors Comment: Il Gibuti, ufficialmente Repubblica di Gibuti, è uno Stato dell'Africa orientale posto all'estremità meridionale del Mar Rosso, presso lo stretto di Bab el-Mandeb, ed è situato nel Corno d'Africa. Il Gibuti confina con l'Eritrea a nord, l'Etiopia a ovest e a sud, con il Somaliland (stato non riconosciuto separatosi dalla Somalia) a sud-est. È bagnato dal Mar Rosso e dal Golfo di Aden. Lo Yemen, nella penisola araba, è a soli 30 km dalla costa del Gibuti. La popolazione ammonta a circa 900.000 abitanti ed ha una composizione multietnica, anche se con netta prevalenza di somali e afar. La religione predominante è l'islam, professato da oltre il 90% dei gibutiani. Ex-colonia francese, ha raggiunto l'indipendenza nel 1977. Le lingue ufficiali sono l'arabo e il francese.

Collectors Comment: Hassan Gouled Aptidon (15 ottobre 1916 - 21 novembre 2006) è stato il primo presidente di Gibuti dal 1977 al 1999.

Collectors Comment: Mahamud Harbi Farah (1921 – 29 settembre 1960) è stato un politico gibutiano di etnia somala . Pan-somalista, fu vicepresidente del Consiglio di governo del Somaliland francese dal 1957 al dicembre 1958, durante il periodo pre-indipendenza di Gibuti .
