Collectors Comment: L'Iran, ufficialmente Repubblica Islamica dell'Iran, è uno Stato dell'Asia situato all'estremità orientale del Medio Oriente. Fino al 1935, l'Iran era noto in Occidente come Persia, patria di una delle più antiche civiltà del mondo. Reżā Pahlavī‎, chiamato Reza Scià il Grande dopo la sua morte (Johannesburg, 26 luglio 1944) è stato il primo Scià di Persia della dinastia Pahlavi da lui creata.

Collectors Comment: Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (Teheran, 26 ottobre 1919 – Il Cairo, 27 luglio 1980) è stato l'ultimo scià di Persia; ha regnato sull'Iran dal 16 settembre 1941 fino alla rivoluzione islamica dell'11 febbraio 1979. È stato il secondo e ultimo monarca della dinastia Pahlavi. Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi possedeva diversi titoli: Sua Maestà Imperiale, Shahanshah ("re dei re", "imperatore"), Aryamehr ("luce degli ariani") e Bozorg Arteshtārān ("capo dei guerrieri").

Collectors Comment: Ruḥollāh Moṣṭafāvī Mōsavī Khomeynī (Khomeyn, 24 settembre 1902 – Teheran, 3 giugno 1989) è stato un politico e imam iraniano. Fu un Grande ayatollah (Āyatollāh al-ʿUẓma), capo spirituale e politico del suo Paese come Guida suprema dell'Iran dal 1979 al 1989. Il suo governo fu ispirato alla religione islamica secondo un'ottica sciita duodecimana, e fu impostato in ossequio a uno stretto approccio fondamentalista. Il regime da lui instaurato inaugurò in Iran una linea di potere che fu definita, in maniera approssimativa, "teocratica", e che sopravvive tuttora.
